Tourism - Things to do in Paris

The Le Marais district: packed with history, trending, a living legend!

This is one of the most iconic, history-packed and dynamic districts in Paris: feast your eyes on the splendours of Le Marais by day or by night as you stroll and linger in its picturesque streets. The Hôtel Le Mareuil, located in this district, makes an ideal base from which to explore its historic and cultural sites and its designer boutiques, terraced cafés and restaurants. The shops in Le Marais are open on Sundays, so you can look forward to happy days spent shopping and strolling!

History-lovers will be in their element in this district, one of the oldest in the capital. Narrow streets - a legacy from the Middle Ages, private mansions and historic religious buildings shape the architectural character of the Le Marais district. Pay a visit to the Carnavalet Museum, which recounts the history of the City of Paris (due to reopen late 2019), in a museum area of more than 10,000 sq.m..
Place des Vosges is another place steeped in history and is a setting for lovely strolls: this was the first royal square to be built in Paris, and we have Henri IV to thank for it. These days it is home to a number of art galleries.

This neighbourhood, full of character, is home to a range of craft and designer boutiques . This is the perfect opportunity to arrange an all-day shopping expedition to discover talented young creatives and the latest trendy concept stores.

When you're ready for a tasty snack, you'll find yourself spoilt for choice, there are so many good bars, cafés and restaurants: tapas bars, world cuisine, and healthy, organic, vegetarian restaurants.

Le Marais is a district of many faces. Within it, there are different ambiances: the gay district, the Jewish quarter, around Rue des Rosiers, in the north-west, the art gallery district, around the Picasso Museum, etc.

Oberkampf, hidden treasures and nightlife

The famous Rue Oberkampf, in the 11th Arrondissement, links the Le Marais district (to the west) with the Ménilmontant district (to the east). With its little enclosed courtyards and its flower-adorned alleyways, its bric-à-brac stalls and its artists' booths, it's peaceful and full of charm, but at night it comes to life and becomes one of the capital's party hotspots: cut-price drinks, music cafés, DJs and restaurants… A night out in this historic "faubourg", whose landscaped was shaped by the workmen who lived there, will be a unique and enjoyable experience!!

The Canal Saint-Martin, or the good life

There's a pleasant daytime or evening stroll along the Canal Saint-Martin, a stone's throw from our hotel; this is a favourite spot for Parisians taking time out for a little peace and relaxation on the shady banks. The Canal Saint-Martin, which links the La Villette basin to Canal de l’Arsenal and is a listed Historical Monument, is a lovely place: have a look inside the designer boutiques, sit at a table and have a drink at one of the trendy cafés and treat yourself to a cruise along the canal…
