Arty Thursdays: artistic fever in the Marais quarter

Tonight, the Marais quarter is home to artistic performances, workshops, and other fun events for the very first Arty Thursday. You will get your very own arty bag, filled with goodies and games, as well as a brochure illustrated by one of the artists on display. Spring stroll along the Arts Viaduct (Viaduc des Arts)

In the vicinity of Place de la Bastille, in 12th arrondissement, you will find the old railroad viaduct that connects Vincennes to la Bastille. There, under the old historic arches, 54 artisans and craftsmen have set up their shops and given the viaduct its new name : Arts Viaduct (Viaduc des Arts). In this first day of Spring, we invite you to take a walk in the country… right in the heart of Paris.

A tribute to arts and crafts
Besides its temporary exhibits, cafés, and restaurants, the Viaduc des Arts is known as the most prestigious display of French traditional savoir-faire (know-how), combining the mastery of traditional techniques and modern creativity. The arches of this historic building are home to the best craftsmen in the capital city, working on wood, fabrics, paper or metal, as true art and restoration specialists. Among them, the luxurious lamps imagined by Baguès, and the blown glass sculptures by Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg are some of our favorites.

La Promenade Plantée (the planted promenade)
Besides taking advantage of all the shopping opportunities, you might want to take time for a nice walk along the avenue Daumesnil, which runs accross the entire 12th arrondissement. The old railroad was made into a pedestrian promenade by two renowned architects, Philippe Mathieux and Jacques Vergely. Up on top of the promenade, you will get a unique view of Paris with bourgeois buildings on one side, and popular dwellings on the other. The 4.5-kilometer walk lets you admire the amazing diversity of the vegetation, as well as numerous archtectural wonders.  Joggers will enjoy this route, especially the tunnel transformed into a grotto with rocks and cascades, right in the heart of Paris! The planted Promenade is accessible from avenue Daumesnil, and all the way to Bois de Vincennes, through stairs and elevators.

Opening at 8:30am, closing varies according to months and seasons.
