Fall 2014 : Art in Paris

The end of October, 2014, has been full of renewal for Art in Paris. Two famous museums – La Monnaie de Paris & Musée Picasso – have just reopened, while the Fondation Louis Vuitton celebrates its grand opening. Three venues worth a visit as we approach the end of the year.

Monnaie de Paris
After years of work started in 2011, the Oldest institution in France partially reopened on October 25, 2014. La Monnaie de Paris coins money, medals and other collection pieces which visitors can buy on site. The museum is planning several exhibits this year, starting right away with American artist Paul McCarthy. Also in the making is a three-star restaurant to be designed by highly recognized architect Jean-Michel Willmotte, while the kitchen should be headed by chef Guy Savoy.

Musée Picasso
After 5 long years of work, the museum just reopened on October 25, 2014. Art lovers around the world had been waiting for this event, and will now be able to learn about all the different genres used by Picasso: cubism, primitivism, polymorphism, or war painting. The museum has acquired two new works from Picasso’s own daugher, Maya, including a notebook filled with erotica. As for the date of the grand reopening, it has been chosen with care and set to Picasso’s birthday.

La Fondation Louis Vuitton
Bernard Arnault dreamed of it, and has now done it. The Fondation Louis Vuitton opened its doors on October 27, 2014. It is nestled in the Jardin d’Acclimatation, located in the Boulogne woods (bois de Boulogne) on Paris’s west side. This new arty venue promotes contemporary art via temporary exhibits and displays. Some of the pieces presented on permanent exhibit are taken directly from the business man’s own collection. The first exhibit features architect Frank Gehry, who also designed the resolutely futuristic building.
